-Right-click on the cell

-Click on Format Cells...

-In the Number tab select custom

-Erase "General" from the Type: field

-Type in 0000

-Click OK

this happens because of the "artificial intelligence" embedded in the excel software. therefore it recognises your input as a number and discards the unnecessary 0. the solution is to change the format of that cell/cells to "text" so that it accepts your number as text.
Its about the field formatting...

Jus right click on the cell -- Format cells -- under the number -- make it to text from general.. it should give you what u want
