In Microsoft Word, how do I customize templates?

I'm trying to use a Marketing Research Survey template I got from Microsoft office's website... I want to change words in the actual template, so I can format the survey to ask the questions I would need to ask, instead of the default ones in the Marketing Research Survey. Help!

In Microsoft Word, how do I customize templates?triumph

Locate the template itself. Most likely it is stored in C;\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1003

Open the template directly from there and you will be able to edit it.

What you need to do is open your Microsoft Word first. Then go to Microsoft site to download the template.

If you're using, Office 2000 or 2003 version, Once you click Download, the template will open up in Word. Then, you should be able to modify it.
I've not downloaded any templates, but I want to add that ANY document can potentially be turned into a template. After opening a new document using an existing template, use Save As from the File menu instead of just Save, and give it a new name. Then click the arrow to the right of the drop-down list labelled Save As Type and choose Document Template.

That way you still have the original template if you want to use it later, and you'll also have a local copy if you've opened the template from a place that is read-only, like the web or a CD.
