Is Microsoft Defender as good a virus protection as Norton?

My Norton renewal is due soon and I wonder if anyone knows if Microsoft Defender, free download is as good a Norton?

DON'T THINK ABOUT IT: Microsoft defender is not a virus protection software, it's a spyware protection software. FYI:



VIRUS is a program that is loaded onto your computer without your knowledge and runs against your wishes. They are dangerous because they will quickly use all available memory and bring the system to a halt, or pops up a message or it may destroy programs and data or it can atttach and copy itself to other programs or transmit itself across networks and bypass security systems. To remove a virus you use a ANTIVIRUS program, like Norton.



SPYWARE is a program that covertly gathers user information through the user's Internet connection without his/her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes They can also gather information about e-mail addresses and even passwords and credit card numbers. To remove a spyware you use programs like Microsoft Defender.



In your case, I recomend a free antivirus software. There are several good ones, like:
