What actually happens when I don't install any updates from Microsoft?

actualy it wont happen nothing,just use security software like av and firewall and no problem actually the xp sp2 doesn't has not even the smallest problem so it wouldn't be a good idea to install some uptades as I heard that some of them "called security uptades"block the 3rd party programs......

Your machine will be vulnerable to those attacks identified by Microsoft and you just have to pray no one will exploit those security holes.
